Simple. Safe. Secure.

Find out how we’re making digital banking even safer

We’re making some important changes to the way you log on to mobile and online banking.

Now’s the time to get ready so you can make the most of even better protection against the threat of fraud.

What's changing?

New rules are coming into force to give consumers more protection against the threat of fraud and make online banking and payments safer.

At HSBC we want to make sure your mobile and online banking remains simple, safe and secure.

Why choose a Digital Secure Key?

  • Use on you compatible Apple or Android mobile device. No need to carry a physical Secure Key
  • Use Apple Touch/Face ID
  • Eco-Friendly and has no expiry date, whereas the physical Secure Key needs to be replaced periodically.
  • Same day set up vs having to wait 5-10 working days for a physical Secure Key to arrive

When is it changing?

This means from 23rd August we’ll ask you to use your Digital Secure Key, physical Secure Key or Apple Touch/Face ID every time you log on to mobile or online banking,  as you’ll no longer have the option of using just your password.

What do I need to do?

Get into the habit of using your Secure Key every time you log onto mobile or online banking from now on.

If you have a physical Secure Key, you can upgrade to a Digital Secure Key if you have a compatible iPhone or Android mobile device running up to date software. You’ll first need to make sure you’ve downloaded the HSBC Mobile Banking app.

If you don’t already have a Secure Key (either on your mobile device or physical device) then you’ll need to get one. Digital Secure Keys are available for those who have compatible devices. If you don’t have the right sort of phone, we can provide you with a physical Secure Key upon request.

We're here to help you. Find the answers and while you're at it, tell us how we could do better.
