Using your credit card in the EU – your rights

When you use your HSBC Channel Islands or Isle of Man credit card in the EU, certain protections relating to payment services apply to your card transactions.

These include:

• Credit card cash withdrawals in Euros outside HSBC’s own ATM network should cost you the same in other EU member states
• You should have access to secure electronic payment methods using strong customer authentication, (eg a PIN and your fingerprint)
• Your liability for an unauthorised payment resulting from a lost or stolen card is limited to £35, except where you have acted fraudulently or with gross negligence. You will not be liable for unauthorised payments made after you have notified us of the loss, theft or unauthorised use of your card

Please note: These protections apply to your HSBC credit card only. They do not apply to other HSBC Channel Islands and Isle of Man products or services.

For further information about payment rights in Europe, please read Your rights when making payments in Europe (PDF).
