Protection abroad

As an international bank operating in 87 countries we have global insight into online fraud. We see trends and threats early and we can react quickly to prevent problems. It also means we're on hand to support you wherever you go.

Browser based security

We want to make sure that all our customers have the most secure online banking experience possible. As such, we’re in the process of removing our online banking support for a range of older, less secure, internet browsers.

This means that if you’re using an internet browser that hasn’t been updated since at least 2016, you’ll no longer be able to access online banking or the HSBC Website. This is because newer internet browsers are updated regularly and have enhanced features and tools that help protect customers from a wide variety of security threats.


The following list shows the earliest version of internet browsers that will remain compatible - all versions released afterwards are also compatible:

Protecting you

In the unlikely event that there are payments from your current or savings accounts that you didn't authorise, we'll refund the amount of the unauthorised transaction and any resulting charges and interest in most circumstances, please see your account terms and conditions for more details.

You must take all reasonable precautions to keep your security details safe, like making sure that no one can see them when you log on and not writing them down in a way that can be easily understood by someone else. You must not generally give your security details to anyone else but you can give them to a Third Party Service Provider (TPP) if it is necessary to allow them to provide services to you. If you do give your security details to a TPP, we’ll assume it’s you authorising us to give access to information about your account and you will be responsible for any payments made as a result. You will also be responsible for any losses if you act fraudulently or let anyone else (other than an authorised TPP) log on using your details.
