The death of someone close is always a difficult time
Dealing with practical matters and making important financial decisions can seem overwhelming when you’re experiencing grief. We’re here to support you throughout.
Letting us know
Online
The quickest and easiest way to let us know about a bereavement is by notifying us online.
When you begin, you'll be asked for:
- Your details
- The deceased customer's details
- Any documents we need to close their accounts
Don't worry if you don't have all the necessary documents to hand right away.
Once you've submitted your notification, your information will be passed to our dedicated bereavement team, who'll be working to support you during this time.
By phone
If notifying us online isn't right for you, you can tell us about a bereavement over the phone.

What to do first
There are some important steps you’ll need to take when dealing with a death. Some of these are unrelated to financial matters, but you may need some of these documents when speaking to us and dealing with the estate.
Taking care of yourself
Bereavement can be challenging, but support is available.
You may be entitled to receive extra help and benefits. The rules can be complicated but your local government website or Citizens Advice will give you all the help you need.
