We're proud to offer Energy Efficiency Loans, to help you support your local environmental conservation charities and contribute towards the Island's ambition to become carbon neutral.

For every approved loan for an energy efficiency purchase, such as solar panels, double glazing, or a new electric car, we'll support the planting of ten metres of hedgerow or five trees.

As an extra thank you, you'll receive £50 cashback too.

To send proof of purchase to qualify for an Energy Efficiency Loan, please email energy.efficiency@hsbc.com with your invoice/quotation of your qualifying purchase/service along with your new Personal Loan sort code and account number.

Early repayments

You can repay your loan in full at any time by giving us notice in writing, in the app, in branch or by calling 03457 404 404. Once you’ve given us notice, we’ll give you a settlement figure. You must pay all the amounts owed if you want to close the loan.

Overpayments

You can make overpayments without charge, which may reduce the amount of interest you pay.
Funds transferred same day

If approved in a branch, you'll receive the money in your account the same day.¹
Apply for additional borrowing

You can apply to borrow more money either in a branch or over the phone. You can also take out a separate loan to your existing one if you prefer.
Responsible lending

We work with you to try to make sure you don't borrow more than you can afford to repay.

6.4% APR representative

For loans between £7,500 and £20,000. Only available for HSBC current account customers.

5.8% APR representative for Premier customers

For loans between £10,000 and £30,000. Our HSBC Premier Personal loans are available exclusively to HSBC Premier current account customers.

The rate is subject to change and the representative APR2 may not be the rate you'll receive. We'll offer you a rate based on our assessment of your personal financial circumstances. The maximum APR you could be offered is 22.9%.

Things to know before you apply

Who can apply?

To be eligible for an Energy Efficiency Personal Loan you must:

Be a resident of the Channel Islands or Isle of Man
Be over 18
Have an HSBC Premier Account

Double glazing installation on a residential property
Thermal insulation installation in a residential property
Purchase of electric or hybrid cars
Purchase of a bike or e-bike
Solar panels installation on a residential home
Purchase of a new boiler for a residential home with an efficiency rating of A

Any other purpose for which we have agreed in advance in writing

Repaying your loan early

At the start of your loan, we'll work out the amount of interest we can charge. Regulations set out the formula we need to use to work this out.

The formula allows us to charge daily interest from the date we gave you the loan up until 28 days after we receive your notice that you want to repay all of the loan early. It also allows us to charge an additional month of interest if your loan agreement said that your loan was repayable over a period of more than 12 months.

Usually, the amount of interest we can charge will be reduced as a result. In these cases, we’ll refund you the difference between the interest included in the total amount payable and this reduced amount of interest. We will refer to this refund as a ‘rebate’ in our communications with you.

Impact of late repayments

Sometimes we might not reduce the amount of interest we can charge. This could happen where your loan lasts longer than we state in your loan agreement.

For example, where you have selected a repayment date that is later than one month after we give you the loan, and as a result your first repayment is delayed, or you have been late making your monthly payments.

If this happens, your monthly repayments towards the start of the loan will pay off more of the interest amount compared to if your loan lasted as long as we state in your loan agreement. But we’ll never actually charge you more interest than is included in the total amount payable. So once you’ve paid the amount of interest included in the total amount payable, your remaining monthly repayments will just pay off the loan amount.

This is why we might not reduce the amount of interest we can charge. Because even though you’re repaying your loan early, the full amount of interest will have already been paid or become payable.
