Temporarily block your card?
Remember that time when your card disappeared and turned up the moment you cancelled it? You can now place a temporary block on your card, and simply unblock it when it turns up. You can block your card via online banking and your card will remain blocked until you follow the steps to unblock it, or report it lost or stolen.
Blocking your card will stop:
- cash withdrawals
- contactless payments
- online and in-store shopping
- digital wallet payments, such as Apple Pay or Google Pay
- debit card subscriptions (e.g. Netflix, Amazon Prime, Spotify)
Blocking your card won’t stop:
- direct debits and standing orders
- credit card subscriptions (e.g. Netflix, Amazon Prime, Spotify)
Follow these simple steps to block or unblock your card using online banking:
Select the ‘Log on to block or unblock your card’ button
Enter your logon details
Follow the on-screen instructions
If your card is definitely lost or stolen
Report it lost or stolen on online banking as soon as you realise. We’ll cancel your card immediately and send you a replacement.

How long will the temporary block remain on my card?
The temporary block will remain on your card until you either unblock your card or report it lost or stolen.
What transactions will be affected by a temporary block?
Debit cards – all transactions will be blocked. This includes recurring payments and subscriptions (e.g. Netflix, Amazon Prime, Spotify).
Credit cards – all transactions will be blocked, however recurring payments and subscriptions will not be affected.
Will temporarily blocking my card affect my Direct Debits and standing orders?
Direct Debits and standing orders will not be affected.
Can I withdraw cash whilst my card is temporarily blocked?
No, you will not be able to withdraw cash if a temporary block is applied. If you need cash, please visit a branch with ID and speak to a member of staff.
I’ve found my card, what should I do?
Good news! Simply return to online banking and unblock your card.
Can I add or remove a temporary block on the mobile banking app, by telephone banking or by visiting a branch?
You can only add a temporary block or remove a temporary block on your card using online banking at the moment. You can’t do it in the mobile banking app, by telephone banking or by visiting a branch.
I think my card is lost or has been stolen. What should I do?
Log on to online banking immediately and select ‘Report lost or stolen card’. We will immediately cancel your card and send you a new one. Alternatively you can call us.
